The heart of the Emerald Coast. Nestled between Panama City, FL and Ft. Walton, FL, Destin is a photography heaven.
The beauty is so rich that we held our wedding here in 2013. I love the protected beaches found within the Henderson Beach State Park. With a constant breeze and gorgeous sunset, these wedding photos are my favorites.
Destin, FL has something for every traveler. The serenity of the beach, although a given, numerous outlet malls, the Harborwalk marina, and a nightlife for creating potential memories.
High-end outlets are home to chain restaurants and coffee shops. There are bargains in every store. The harborwalk is my favorite for the atmosphere alone. Seafood restaurants outnumber other varieties. They have just added big screen for outdoor movie nights and playing sports games. Live music and unique beverages are found at every corner. A zipline hangs above you and the marina alongside.
The nightlife is unparalleled. AJ’s is a seafood restaurant by day and a local music trove by night. If dancing on a bar is on your bucket list, as it is on mine, check out Coyote Ugly (yeah like the movie) for some boot stomping jams. Lastly, if Celtic music calls to you, head to McGuire’s Irish pub. This is the best place to experience St. Patty’s day if you’re on the Gulf Coast. Oh and try the Irish wakes.
It should be obvious by now that I love a good beer. Head East towards 30A and Grayton beach and you will find three new breweries: Idyll Hounds brewing, Destin Brewery, and Grayton Beer Company-all of which specialize in pale ales. For darker brews head west towards Ft. Walton and Navarre where you will find: Props micro brewery, The Salty Duck-a game filled bar, and Ye Olde Brothers brewery.
Destin is always an easy pick for my staycations and mental getaways. The last thing to mention is really the first thing you see when driving over the bridge, Crab Island. A glorious meeting point on top of a sandbar. There are boats, floats, and kayaks everywhere. They are all waiting their turn for the floating slides and restaurants anchored to the sandbar.
I hope you enjoyed a peek into my little getaway zone. Don’t forget to like, follow, and share this post!
